Are you having trouble falling or staying asleep at night? Your mobile devices could very well be the culprit. A new study published in the Journal of Child Neurology found that students who turned off their devices or who messaged for less than 30 minutes after lights out performed significantly better in school than those who messaged for more than 30 minutes after lights out.
The study also reported students who texted longer in the dark also slept fewer hours and were sleepier during the day than those who stopped messaging when they went to bed. Texting before lights out did not affect academic performance.
Empower yourself being taking part in the science and testing the outcome yourself. If you or one of your children is suffering from poor sleep, try cutting out mobile screen time before lights-out for a week and observe whether or not anything changes.
